The Never Ending Staircase

The story begins on my second trip to Europe, specifically in France. My two partners in crime, Maddie and Taylor, are also a part of this story. We were in the same girl scout troop and decided to stick together throughout the trip. So anyways, we were on our way to the Loire Valley, a town of about 2.5 million people. Specifically, we were going to visit Chartres Cathedral, a gorgeous Cathedral in the outskirts of France with beautiful architecture.

I remember pulling up to it in the bus and thinking it was something you see out of a movie. Surrounding the Cathedral was landscapping that made it even more picturesque. We exited the bus into the crisp, summer air and were led into the Cathedral. Inside was something so incredible, stained glass windows that made the entire Cathedral shine, statues of church figures all over carved to perfection, and the painting all over the church were beautiful. We were walking around when we came across a staircase and a desk to climb to the top of the Cathedral.

We always loved a good challenge when in Europe, and we always make it a personal goal to climb to the top of as many Cathedrals as possible. This was of course on the list. We decided to go grab the rest of our troop and make it a group event. We paid and started our journey to the top.

Well, our journey began and oh my goodness it was definitely a climb. We underestimated the amount of stairs and about half way up we had to take a break because so many of us were out of breath. The only thing that kept us motivated was the view that would be at the top. So we continued to the top and finally we could see the light at the end of the staircase, literally. We reached the top and I swear I could hear the angels singing. The view was unbelievable, and the wind was refreshing after being in a closed staircase.

It was such an incredible experience to climb to the top of the Cathedral and see the town from a different point of view. I really remember this time especially because it was a time when we all climbed to the top together. We conquered our challenge and made it to the top of that beautiful church.
