First of all, let me explain the title of this wonderful story. This is the story of how I got lost looking for a McDonald's in Hungary, so hence the title. This was on my second trip to Europe, and after awhile I started craving some McDonald's because I'm an American and just needed some chicken nuggets. Not that I didn't enjoy enriching my palette, but some familiar food sounded especially tasty. Hungary is home to the fanciest McDonald's in the world, so obviously I had to go and check it out, and this is how the story begins...
Slowly but surely I arrived in Hungary after what seemed like the longest bus ride ever. We got a bus tour and saw several things such as, St. Stephens Basilica, The Hungarian Parliament Building, and finally we were let out by the Chain bridge (this is useful for later in the story). However, the one thing that stood out to me was the mention of the fanciest McDonald's in the World. After seeing several disgusting McDonald's fast food chains in the United States I was intrigued to see what a fancy McDonald's would look like (chicken nuggets didn't sound too bad either). So a group of us got together to go and find this McDonald's for lunch, unfortunately the map was in the posession of the worst map reader I have ever come accross. We didn't know this until later in our adventure, but it made for an interesting adventure.
We planned out our route but something went terribly wrong, we ended up getting lost and obviously couldn't ask that many people for help because none of us spoke hungarian, but we tried our best. Remember the kid I mentioned earlier who got the map? Well, he refused to hand it over to anyone else for help and kept asking people for directions. I couldn't take it anymore, so I took the map and took charge. We made it to the water and sat down at a cafe to figure out where we were and how to get home. I thought the easiest way to get back to the bus would be to follow the water back to the bridge to where we were let out. So, we did this until we made it back to the bus safe and sound.
Now you're probably wondering if I ever made it to McDonald's. The answer is no. Although I did learn a lot on this adventure such as, how to read a map, never give the map to someone who can't read it, etc. Looking back at it now it is a pretty funny story to tell, and I still want to see that damn McDonald's!
